Duke Ellington and Jimmy Stewart
In a post about Henry Mancini earlier this week, I linked to an iMDB bio that mentioned the relationship between jazz and movies.
Along those lines, check out this clip of Duke Ellington and Jimmy Stewart in the movie Anatomy of a Murder. Considering that the movie was made in 1959, it’s an amazingly forthright treatment of sex and violence. The music is very cool, to boot.

On This Day in 1945, Sentimental Journey Led the Charts
The song Sentimental Journey was number one on this date — indeed, for nine weeks — in 1945, according to Bob Brobst’s site. This version of the oft-recorded song was done by Les Brown’s Band of Renown. The site doesn’t specify that this version — with Doris Day on vocals – was the hit in 1945. The notes at YouTube say that this version was recorded in late 1944, so this probably is it.
